Great ‘Cross Weather Greets Racers at Crosstoberfest 2008

Ragnarok's signature cyclocross festival was a great success turning out record numbers of racers and getting a surprise visit from Mother Nature

Thanks everyone for coming out to our race. Whether you came for the racing, the beer garden, just spectating, fresh air or all of the above we greatly appreciate your dedication to the sport. It is the great community of cyclocross riders and supporters that makes the work of putting on a race worthwhile. We wouldn’t do it without you and we couldn’t do it without our great sponsors Second Ascent and New Belgium Brewing.

Mother nature did not disappoint this year. We got a lot of wind, a little rain; but managed to keep the temperature above bone-chilling. I’m not sure we could have asked for better weather for a ‘cross race. The breeze added to the excitement of the Cat 3/Singlespeed race, taking out several tents including the Shimano tent that went for a short flight with a bike still attached. We even got a little help in the course design just prior to the costume relay race when a large tree came down in the wooded section creating a new barrier.

None of this was much worry for the spectators enjoying some fine New Belgium Brews in the beer garden. While sipping on Fat Tire, Mothership Wit, 1554 and Old Cherry, they witnessed some great action and carnage in the Trippel Barriers and about half the course visible from inside. Given the great beer being served it’s probably no surprise that there were always enough people there to hold those two tents down.

Speaking of racing, congratulations to our Elite class winners. Kristi Berg (Redline Bicycles) rode away with the victory in the women’s field, showing the skills and power that have made her a fixture in Northwest ‘cross for the past few years. Due in part to bunny hopping the short double barriers, Russell Stevenson (Benaroya Research) eventually pulled out from an initial four-man then two-man group to solo into the men’s win. Congratulations to all the competitors in all the classes who came out and enjoyed the communal sweet pain of ‘cross. Here are the full results (.pdf).

We look forward to seeing you all at the other races this year and certainly at Crosstoberfest 2009.

Thanks,

Ragnarok Racing Team
